A Story of Prayer
Prayer has been foundational in Ozark Mountain Country for generations.
A recent prayer movement began in the 1990s. During a period of exponential growth and challenge, Bob Burton, an accountant for Silver Dollar City, started the Uninterrupted Prayer Team. This initiative brought our community together as more than 400 people volunteered to pray during one-hour slots to provide round-the-clock prayer coverage for our region. After Bob Burton passed away in 2010, the movement lost momentum.
Next, Pastor Howard Boyd revived the movement by developing the United Prayer App. With this online tool, he continued promoting the seven prayer sectors designated by Bob Burton: Education, Medical, Social & Civic Services, Entertainment, Government, Business, and Churches & Nonprofits. Once again, volunteers provided continuous prayer coverage for the Ozarks. When Pastor Boyd retired, this ministry was entrusted to Ozark Mountain Legacy.
In 2020, God laid it on the heart of Larry VanGilder to reignite the prayer movement and call it the United Prayer Team. A virtual Prayer Room was added to the Ozark Mountain Legacy website. Each weekday was assigned one of the seven prayer sectors. Volunteers post and pray for community needs and seek to cover Ozark Mountain Country with prayer. Our commitment to “Faith, Family, Flag, Friends, and Future” in Ozark Mountain Country is well established. God has ordained it and has poured His blessing on us because of it. We cannot take it for granted.
We must build on the foundations of prayer and service to our Lord and not let up. As the pressures of the world press in we must, more than ever, raise up a standard of prayer, recognizing that the enemy is out to steal, kill and destroy.
Let’s unite for a revival in prayer for Ozark Mountain Country.
